Trekking in Zanskar

Zanskar, once an independent kingdom remains nestled between the main portion of the Indian Himalaya and the Indus valley. The place is quite remote and is located among a number of valleys and passes entangled with each other. The people here are cheerful and follow a form Tibetan Buddhist religion and culture a bit different from the usual Tibetan culture. The monasteries located among the snowy valleys and far flung villages present a breathtaking view and the adventure loving tourists only dare to explore this pristine beauty of nature. Many expeditions are carried on every year to enjoy the grandeur of the majestic Himalayas and to explore the Ladhaki culture amongst the picturesque villages and scaling new heights.

There are some special trekking routes which present grand views of the valleys and numerous passes leading to different attractive destinations and heights.

The Lamayuru Padum Trek starts from Leh and the beautifully designed monasteries are of special attraction to the trekkers. Walking through the fields crossing the ancient gompas like Pepiting and the Karsha, one gets the photogenic view of the Himalayas. After crossing the Zanskar River the trek leads to the beautiful and serene villages and proceeding further the road leads to some beautiful passes like Purfi La Pass, Netuke La pass. The trekkers experience the famous hanging icefalls of awe inspiring beauty and the lovely landscapes of Photang valley and Panjila Pass.

Trekking in ZanskarThe Chadar trek is the ultimate delight of the trekkers as they have to trek over the frozen Zanskar River. This remains the only way open for the Zanskaris when all the routes get cut off due to heavy snowfall.

Due to the inaccessibility of Zanskar it has been turned into a favorite hunt by the trekkers. Starting from the Lahul valley of Himachal Pradesh the South Zanskar trek is also another trekking route much liked by the trekkers. Other trekking routes like Zanskar Darcha Padum trek, Trans Zanskar expedition, Junglam trek are notable routes followed by the trekkers.

All the trekking expeditions involve lot of patience and endurance and sheer love for nature. Through the long treks one faces the admirable beauty of the snow covered passes, the steep valleys with occasional temples and monasteries standing by providing the courage and tranquility to the trekkers. All these present a unique view against the backdrop of the blue sky. Trekking guides are there to help in guiding through the right direction and tackling any adverse climatic conditions. The Zanskari guides are very helpful in all respects due to their cooperative and hospitable nature.
